KBSIC has created a Bear Hazard Assessment for the Bow Valley in conjunction with Alberta Sustainable Resource Development. It is one component of a "Bear Smart" initiative within Canmore and the Bow Valley that began in 2005. The Assessment identifies areas of high use bear habitat and areas of past and present bear human conflict. Additionally, the Assessment identifies future potential problem areas based on forecasted human use and development and provides reccomendations on how to minimize them.
