Education

KBSIC delivers programs to teach the public, communities and private industry how to minimize conflict and coexist with bears. Two KBSIC information brochures, our public information flyer and What you can do, are available that discuss the history of the program, its goals and what people can do to help achieve them.

Minimizing conflict, and thereby reducing human caused bear mortality requires the public to become engaged and directly involved in minimizing bear human conflict in their own backyards and while they are recreating in bear country. By engaging people, more and more of the public learn how bears are managed in their area. They become more interested in bear management and what they can do to help reduce conflict. The result is that relations between the public and government agencies tend to be more constructive, proactive and interactive. By becoming interested in the issues, the public are provided an opportunity to recognize the benefits of wildlife conservation and conserving the environment as a whole.

KBSIC delivers Bear Awareness courses to private industry groups working in bear country and to organizations and special events whose recreational pursuits take them into bear country. We also provide presentations to schools and other interested parties who would like to learn more about bears in general and some of the innovative methods being used to reduce bear human conflict in different areas of North America.
